PRINTING COURSE DESCRIPTION

This class is very much a hands-on and development class to teach you the fundamentals and techniques for creeating the best prints of your photography. There will be a bit of post-process work involved to help maximize the image regarding settings and techniques for bringing out the quility. There will be a few extra costs involved for materials and print-making by the teacher.

Assignments to be covered by lesson

1. Compositional Elements
Understanding common print dimensions, aspect ratios and framing your original shots to optimize those dimensions for printing.

2. Technical Elements
Understanding yoyur camera resolution and lenses. Take a photograph and identify the flaws caused by the lens distortions, errors in depth of field, sharpness and more. Explain the methods for dealing with the issues found. Students will also learn about the limitations of a cameras sebnsor (megapixels) vs. print size.

3. Color space and Gamut - An Intro
Students will learn the benefitof shooting raw and its limitations. Students will take duplicate photos using JPG and RAW and will then learn the difference in resolution and post processing options between the two. Alsoo discussed will be the gamuts of sRGB vs. AdobeRGB vs. your monitor and most printers.

4. Post Processing
Techniques for editng your photos in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop that best prepare them for large prints. Sharpening, contrast enhancement, general editing, tone curves and other techniques will be covered.

5. Understanding printers, papers and making and having prints mounted and framed
You will price up the cost of having a photo framed at different sizes. the idea behind this is to make you aware of the cost assocoiated with making a print, having it framed for display and how to price your work for sale and still make a profit.

6 Tying it all together
You will provide the best effort shot for printing and framing. You'll walk through all of the processes learned, present a final images for print and the teacher would make the print, evaluate it and send it back along with an evaluation of the processing work. The print would be an 11X14 and would cost and extra $10 for materials and shippinng.
