Alaska Northern Lights / Aurora Borealis Photo Workshop

$2,345

Flight Destination: Fairbanks, AK

Seeing the northern lights is included in many of the must see before you die lists. Just watching the aurora borealis is a sight to behold as you can stand there and be mesmerized by their movement. On this trip, though, participants do more than just watch, as you learn to capture this spectacular action. Northern lights and winter landscapes are the feature of this unique photography workshop. You'll get hooked on this amazing phenomenon. Several people have done this trip more than once.

We'll visit two areas working the aurora borealis after the sun goes down and do some landscape photography during the day. The trip starts off with two nights in Fairbanks visiting an area north of town away from the city lights. Some added props and special techniques will make for some great photographs. One evening we'll photograph work at the World Ice Sculpting Championships.

On Monday morning we'll make the drive to a unique community within the strongest band of aurora activity in North America in the Brooks Range. We'll stay in a multi-room large cabin for four nights where on one or two nights all we do is walk outside to photograph the northern lights. During the days we will venture out to do some beautiful winter landscape photography and also have the chance to see Dall sheep. In 2007 we even saw a wolf from about 50 yards away.

Once we return to Fairbanks we'll spend one final night of photographing aurora activity.

On the first Sunday morning of the trip we will visit the Santa Claus House in North Pole for some different images. Also on that Sunday we'll stop at the top sporting goods store in Fairbanks where people needing extra gear can load up on very warm socks, gloves and whatever else is needed.

Hot chocolate will be handy on all nightly excursions.
