12 - 19, 2013 Penguins
of Falkland Islands |
With 4 - $4,495 Flight Destination: Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands |
Get ready for your once in a lifetime trip. It's summer in the Falklands and the penguins are nesting, thousands and thousands of them. And just outside the door of your accommodations. No matter which island and penguin colony you visit, you're sure to find a lot of activity as parents feed young and young learn to swim. It wont take long to realize you made a good choice to venture all the way south to see and photograph a variety of penguins. Find yourself sitting amongst a group of penguins just feet in front of you on this one of a kind Falkland Islands photo workshop. Sit still long enough and a curious penguin will walk right up and almost climb onto your lap as these birds have no fear of humans. The Falklands are home to one of the richest concentrations of wildlife left in the world and include four different types of penguins - Rockhopper, Magellanic, King, and Gentoo. One one island, sightings of Macaroni penguins might be found. The trip has been timed to be at the peak of breeding season so there will be lots of action in the colonies with adults and young at various stages from very small to learning to fly (cormorants) or swim (penguins). The unspoled beauty of the Falklands is matched only by wonderfully long days to offer more than enough shooting opportunities at three of the best locations among the numerous islands. These spots have been chosen based on previous trips to the area.

![]() | While penguins are the stars of this trip, several large colonies of black-browed albatross as well as plenty of other bird species such as striated caracara, skua, pied oystercatchers, upland geese, kelp geese, Falklands flightless steamer ducks, black-crowned night herons, and dolphin gulls can also be photographed. Participants are responsible for the cost of hotels, meals and transfers in Chile as one night is required on each end of the trip due to flight schedules in and out of the Falklands. Suggestions are provided for staying together as a group and doing some photo work in Santiago. Once in the Falklands, flights to the islands are included in the price as well as all meals. |

![]() | The way the flights here work, you will need to spend a day in Chile on either end of the trip. One night in Punta Arenas on the way down and a night in Santiago on the way back is recommended to see the sights of these two interesting cities. Before the trip, I will be stopping off to spend four or five days in Torres del Paine as a scout trip for a full workshop tin 2014. The cost of this will primarily be a split of expenses between all who attend. Right now several people are going to be doing this. Contact me if interested in joining me on this extra excursion.
