January 2 - 9, 2010 Penguins of Falkland
Islands |
$3,695 (deposit is $500) Flight Destination: Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands |
Photograph penguins, black-browed albatross, king cormorants, and more. Find yourself sitting amongst a group of penguins with parents feeding their young, mothers on eggs and courtship behavior just feet in front of you on this one of a kind Falkland Islands photo workshop. Sit still long enough and a curious penguin will walk right up to you and almost climb onto your lap. The Falklands are home to one of the richest concentrations of wildlife left in the world and include four different types of penguins - Rockhopper, Magellanic, King, and Gentoo. One one island, rare sightings of Macaroni penguins might be found. | ![]() |
![]() | While penguins are the stars of this trip, several large colonies of black-browed albatross as well as plenty of other bird species such as striated caracara, skua, pied oystercatchers, upland geese, kelp geese, Falklands flightless steamer ducks, black-crowned night herons, and dolphin gulls can also be photographed. Participants are responsible for the cost of hotels, meals and transfers in Chile as one night is required on each end of the trip. Suggestions provided for staying together as a group and doing some photo work in Santiago. Once in the Falklands, flights to the islands are included in the price. |
The itinerary in the Falklands includes visits to Carcass Island, West Point Island for a lage albatross colony, Saunders Island, and Volunteer Point for a very large king penguin colony. | ![]() |
