of Southwest Alaska |
$2,245 Flight Destination: Dutch Harbor, AK |
A pair of neighboring islands in the Aleutians is home to about 500 permanent bald eagles who thrive on the year-round fishing industry. Be amazed as up to two dozen eagles converge just feet in front of you making for easy interaction and flight shots on this unique eagle photography workshop. Great landscapes and the oldest Russian Orthodox Church in Alaska provide a great backdrop to some great eagle photography. For the history buff, there are some interesting W.W. II remains and bunkers to add another dimension to the trip. |
Currently the only workshop operator running eagle workshops to this location, you will find the opportunities here are unique from any other Alaska eagle photo trip. Having led trips to Haines for several years, the Dutch Harbor eagles are more predictable and flight shots more common. Be amazed at the site of eagles sitting on light poles as if they are the local pigeons. Almost everywhere you turn in the area you will find a bald eagle. A great opportunity awaits if one of the fishing boats is mending a net as more than 100 eagles will converge on the area and seek out fish scraps in the net just in front of the hotel we stay at. | |
![]() | At this time of year, nesting is taking place and plenty of immature eagles join the feeding frenzy. There might even be a chance of looking down from a coastal cliff into a nest with a young eagle in it. Don't let the price of the airfare from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor scare you as it's well worth the extra cost to get here. |
