Colorado Fall Color Photo Workshop
Ridgway and Telluride

$1,795

Flight Destination: Montrose, CO

All new for 2012 is this adventure to just the Ridgway and Telluride area for some entirely new and exciting spots to find fall color after a scout trip in 2011 dedicated just to this area.

Fall in the Colorado high country is a sight to behold. It's no wonder so many people travel to this area year after year to see the aspens changing to gold and even orange in some areas. Rugged mountain backdrops just add to the beauty of this annual photography rite.

Crisp blue skies, yellow trees and snow dusting the mountaintops make for some great color contrasts as well as great compositions. Learn some new techniques for shooting well before the sun breaks the horizon that will amaze you and everyone who looks at your photos. Special exposure tips will also be provided to help give a bit of punch to the colors. The days will be long as we will leave to be at our first location well before sunrise and we will shoot until we lose light at night. There will be mid-day breaks for resting, downloading images and instructional programs.

As a resident of Colorado since 1991, I have found many hidden spots that make this a memorable experience. This fall color trip is based out of two areas - Ridgway and Telluride. The first three nights and will be spent in Ridgway to do sunrise shoots of the Sneffels Range and at Crystal Lake.

The next two nights will be spent in Telluride with the Wilson Range as the backdrop, exploring roads around there. Some great color and scenery is found in these areas including getting some red from the scrub oaks. The best place in the state for shooting up through the aspens is found on Owl Creek Pass and Silver Jack Reservoir, which we will make an up, over and back on this road for a good day trip while based out of Ridgway.

Other popular areas we visit include Ironton mining ruins, Wilson Mesa, Priest Lake and of course several different spots featuring Mount Sneffels. Easy but bumpy four-wheel drive roads will be encountered on this trip.

Some of these spots are the most photographed places in the state and you can see for yourself why. Even with many photos taken here, each one you take will be different from those made in the past.

These workshops do not involve much trail hiking, however, they can involve walking along roads and slopes with uneven surfaces. Be prepared for possible temperature extremes and sudden changes in weather. Be aware that mornings and evenings can be very chilly in October and snow is a possibility at higher elevations.
