The far northern coastal area of California is a photographer's paradise. The subjects range from covered bridges and lighthouses to glorious sunsets over the salt marshes. Combine that with a chance to visit parks with over half of the world's remaining old growth coastal redwoods (sequoia sempervirens) and you'll soon come to realize this is a terrific opportunity. We'll explore the lost coast of far Northern California allowing for time in Redwoods National Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwood State Park and Prairie Creek Redwood State Park. These parks provide spectacular redwood groves surrounded by ferns and shrubs. The redwood groves we'll visit range from those on sunlit ridges to those at lower elevations, typically shrouded in mist or light fog. All provide stunning opportunities for great shots.

| We should have opportunities to photograph the resident Roosevelt elk and, at low tide, get some shots of the giant green anemones, California mussels and purple shore crabs in the tide pools. The beaches also provide more sure bets such as driftwood, surf and sea stacks for subject matter. While we move along forest trails, we should encounter the California coast's unique invertebrate, the banana slug! These bright yellow creatures are fun to subjects
The trip will involve several short (less than one mile) hikes to access the best locations for the tress. In addition we'll walk on the beach and rocky coastal areas.

The coastal weather is typically pleasant in the summer and we have selected a time that will give us the best chance of good shooting conditions. We'll be sending a list of recommended clothes to make sure you'll be prepared for the variability of the weather and to make sure you'll get the most out of all the photographic opportunities.
This 5 day trip will allow us to spend time in the redwoods as well as exploring the quaint villages, the salt marshes and tide pools, the lighthouses and historic covered bridges that the dot the area. |
