October 6 - 10 Arches
National Park at Night |
$1,545 Flight Destination: Grand Junction, CO |
After many trips to this most unique national park, a change was needed to offer something different to go with some of the regular trips that are on the First Light workshop schedule. Thus, star trails. A new moon will offer the chance to do star trail shots after the sun sets at six different formations. Weather permitting, three nights of late night photography of the star trails doing several increments of varying timed exposed lengths are planned. Learn how to do long exposures combined with special lighting to capture images of the formations that add a new dimension to most photographs from here. Expand your typical photo shooting hours as you learn what you can do between that time of sunset and total darkness with exposures of 30 seconds to 2 or 3 minutes. Other special techniques taught during this trip include photo stitching and HDR. | |
Typically a trip to Arches includes excursions for sunrise and sunset shooting. This trip will go away from the standard approach. Instead, the main hours of shooting will be from late evening for sunset shots and then preparing and waiting for star trail images for several hours after sunset, taking full advantage of the dark of night. Because sunset is fairly eary at this time of year, we're able to get several formations in a night and have enough sleep to be able to get up in the morning for the great sunrise shots found througout this scenic locations. Trips to do rock art at several locations will be done during the day as well as in-room instructional programs. One of the four nights might be left out of doing late night shooting or cut short so an early morning trip to photograph Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park can be included in the trip. How can a trip to this area not include this popular sunrise location? |
